I was born and raised right here in Lawrence County. Except for my college years and my first year on the Indiana State Police, I have lived in Lawrence County my entire life. I love this county! It is, and always will be, my home. Along with my wife and children, I own, live on, and manage a 183-acre farm in rural Lawrence County. This farm, which we call “Indian Creek Farms” was homesteaded by my family in 1823 and has been in the family ever since. That’s nearly 200 years of family roots in our beloved county.
I graduated from Bedford North Lawrence in 1992 in the top 10 of my class academically. I graduated Cum Laude from Indiana State University in December 1995, where I obtained a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Upon graduating from ISU, I substitute taught in the NLCS school system during the day, while working as a manager at Austin’s Midtown Grocery in the evenings.
I married my beautiful wife and best friend, Karen, in 1996. She is a
teacher in the business department at BNL. We have two children. Our son, Heath, is in his final year of college at Vincennes University, where he has obtained an associate’s degree in John Deere Technology and is about to complete his bachelor’s degree in Technology and Project Management. He is also employed full-time as a technician at Hutson’s John Deere in Newberry. Our daughter, Claire, is a senior at BNL, where she is a member of the marching band. She also works part-time at a local retail store.
We attend the Mitchell Church of Christ, where I have served as an elder since 2016. In this role, I help plan and administer a large budget, provide leadership and spiritual guidance, teach an adult Bible class, and have occasionally filled in preaching. I am also a former director at Spring Mill Bible Camp intermediate week from 2010-2017.
Honestly, I’m a pretty simple guy. I enjoy spending time and doing a variety of things with my family. I especially love all things outdoors, and there’s no place I would rather enjoy God’s beautiful creation than right here in Lawrence County. Along with staying busy on the farm, I also enjoy fishing, especially creek fishing for smallmouths, and am an avid deer hunter. I can also be found working out at the gym most mornings during the week.
